We Support Change

Protests and riots during the worst pandemic in a generation. These are some of the most difficult times many of us have ever seen. Our country is in turmoil in the wake of the horrendous acts perpetrated against George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and countless others.

We see the horrific injustices and know that things must change for our world to become a better place. We support that change. As attorneys, we must speak out against the injustices and inequality that is so readily apparent. Black Lives Matter. There should be equality for all: period.

Injustice has not been in short supply, and we all agree that enough is enough – it has to stop and the system must change. However, we do not hate all police. We do not hate all governments. The real adversary is the system in place that operates to protect corrupt police, leaders, and government officials instead of protecting the public for whom they serve.

We believe in — and must continue to believe in — police forces and governments that exist to protect and serve our communities. They are absolutely vital to all of us. But, we need proper checks and balances within those organizations, and changes must be made for the betterment of our society.

We support the right of citizens to protest and express their anger and disgust, but we do not in any way support rioting, looting or killing. There are many good ways to fight for change – and one of the most effective is at the ballot box. Elections are looming and we encourage everyone to vote. Legislators are again opening our Capitols. Pass laws that make a difference. Your vote can be part of that difference.

Let the voices be heard by all. Let them be heard the right way – in a way that will lead to positive change. Now, more than ever, we need to come together as a nation to heal our communities, with empathy, love and understanding. Stay positive. Stay united. Stay healthy. Stay safe.
